Obituary of James Edward Gabriel

Obituary Notice Funeral services for James Edward Gabriel, age 93, of Roanoke, will be 2:00 PM, Saturday, January 5, 2013, from Benefield Funeral Chapel with Rev. Steve Dempsey officiating. Burial will follow in Napoleon Church of Christ Cemetery with Benefield Funeral Home in charge of arrangements. The family will receive friends at the funeral home from 5:00 pm to 8:00 pm, on Friday, January 4, 2013. Pallbearers will be Edward Gabriel, Jeff Heard, Mark Mitchell, Johnny McVay, Robert Sims, Chad Wiggins, Seth Gortney, and Lane Mitchell. Mr. Gabriel died Thursday, January 3, 2013 at Wedowee Hospital. Mr. Gabriel is survived by four daughters, Shelia McVay of Wadley, Darlene Wiggins of Graham, Delilah Rice of Roanoke, Dolly Gabriel of Roanoke; one son, Nick Gabriel of Roanoke; one sister, Francis Highfield of Wedowee; fourteen grandchildren; twenty-two great grandchildren; one great great-grandchild. Mr. Gabriel was born December 17, 1919, the son of John Wince and Luzanie McCollum Gabriel. He was of the Church of Christ faith, had been a police officer for the City of Wedowee, and served in the United States Army during WWII. Mr. Gabriel is preceded in death by his first wife, Joyce Gabriel; his parents; one daughter, Linda Gay; one son, Jimmy Gabriel; one grand-daughter, Libby Heard; four brothers; two sisters.
