Funeral services for Roland P. (Pete) McManus age 90 of Wedowee will be held Tuesday May 14, 2013 at 10 AM from Benefield Funeral Chapel with Rev. Tommy Burke and Rev. Matt Browning officiating. Graveside services will follow at North Atlanta Memorial Park in Dunwoody, Ga. at 2:00 PM CST (3:00 EST).
Mr. McManus passed away Sunday May 12, 2013 at his residence.
Mr. McManus is survived by his loving wife Irene Benefield McManus of Wedowee; two daughters Rita (husband John) McManus Osborn of Dacula, Ga, and Donna McManus Crouch of Heflin; two brothers Ronald McManus of Lanett and Joel McManus of Conway S.C; one grandchild and four great-grandchildren.
Pallbearers will be his great-grandson, Ryan Palmieri; nephews Wayne Browning, Ricky Kirby and Mike Browning; friends Bob White and Mike Rampy.
Honorary pallbearers will be his friends J.C. Rampy, Boots Heard, James beddingfield and Charles Fincher.
Mr. McManus was a native of Randolph County Alabama born on September 18, 1922 the third child of eight to William Posey and Nettie Lee Hester McManus. He honorably served his country in the United States Navy as a Petty Officer during World War II. He served on the USS Randolph and USS Coral Sea. He married his love on Christmas Eve 1946 while home on leave. He left the Navy in 1948 taking a job with Southern Bell(now AT&T) in Chamblee,Ga. After 34 years he retired as a Test Deskman and moved back to Wedowee with his wife Irene. He was a member of Green's Chapel United Methodist Church, a lifelong member of the American Legion serving as a 4th District Post Commander and a member of the 40 & 8. He was preceded in death by his parents, a son C. Earl McManus, three sisters Sue Compton, Norma Jean Smith and Wanda Styles. Two brothers Harvard and Bill McManus.
The family will receive friends at Benefield Funeral Home- Wedowee on Monday May 13, 2013 from 5 till 8 PM.
