Obituary of Wendell Wayne Heard

Funeral services for Wendell Wayne "Boots" Heard, age 72, of Roanoke will be held on Thursday, September 19, 2013, at 2:00 p.m. from Benefield Funeral Chapel with Rev. Tommy Burke and Emmett Heard officiating. Burial will follow at Greens Chapel United Methodist Church with Benefield Funeral Home in charge of arrangements. The family will receive friends at the funeral home from 5:30-8:00 p.m. on Wednesday, September 18, 2013. Mr. Heard died Monday, September 16, 2013, in Wedowee, Alabama. Survivors include his wife, Corene Heard of Roanoke; one son, Emmett (Tara) Heard of Hartselle; five grandchildren, Kari Heard, Amy Heard, Casey Heard, Ellen Heard, and William Heard; one great-grandchild, Aubree Heard Riggins; and three sisters, Frances Cantrell of Wedowee, Linda Gore of Franklin, GA, and Marilyn Williamson of Tyus, GA; Pallbearers will be Jake Moore, Jamie Gore, Phil Heard, Phillip Watson, Bill Kirby, and Bob Kirby. A Randolph County native, Mr. Heard was born on October 30, 1940, the son of Stanley and Ilene Bailey Heard. He was a member of Greens Chapel United Methodist Church and worked at the Randolph Farmers Co-op. Mr. Heard was preceded in death by his parents; one son, Bobby Heard; two sisters, Dorothy Moody and Joyce Heard; and one brother, Sherman Heard.
