Obituary of Lila C Whitaker

Funeral services for Lila C. Whitaker, age 79, of Roanoke will be held on Sunday, November 10, 2013, at 2 PM from Oak Grove Church of Christ with Bro. Allan Daniel and Bro. Brad Prince officiating. Burial will follow in the Oak Grove Cemetery with Benefield Funeral Home in charge of arrangements. The family will receive friends at the funeral home from 5:00-8:00 PM on Saturday, November 9, 2013. Mrs. Whitaker died Thursday, November 7, 2013, at her residence. Survivors include: two sons, Harold Whitaker (wife, Ronda) of Roanoke, AL, and Steve Whitaker (wife, Rhonda) of Carrollton, GA; daughter-in-law, Rita Whitaker of Woodland, AL; caregiver, Barbara Wrights; three sisters, Ann McCord of Newell, AL, Faye Leonard of Newell, AL, and Gail Higgins of Big Springs, AL; four brothers, Paul Shelnutt of Woodland, AL, Brack Shelnutt of Newell, AL, Brooks Shelnutt of Franklin, GA, and Blake Shelnutt of Hogansville, GA; six grandchildren, Dana Whitaker, Deana Grant, Bethany Rosella, Britany Walker, Christopher Whitaker, Clayton Whitaker; and four great-grandchildren. Pallbearers will be John Paul Shelnutt, Tommy Shelnutt, Johnny Shelnutt, Cory Paul Shelnutt, Eric McCord, and Jeffery Owen. Honorary pallbearers will be all other neices and nephews. A Randolph County native, Mrs. Whitaker was born on February 22, 1934, the daughter of Dorsey and Gracie Richardson Shelnutt. She was a member of Oak Grove Church of Christ and was a homemaker. Mrs. Whitaker was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Franklin D. Whitaker, Sr.; one son, Franklin D. Whitaker, Jr.; and two brothers, Buck Shelnutt and Dean Shelnutt The family is accepting flowers and also suggests donations be made to the Alzheimer's Association.
