Obituary of John Sims

Funeral services for John Sims, age 67, of Wedowee will be held on Tuesday, November 12, 2013, at 12:00 PM from Benefield Funeral Chapel with Rev. Kim Northington officiating. Burial will follow at Zion Rest Baptist Cemetery. The family will receive friends at Benefield Funeral Home of Wedowee from 5:00-8:00 PM on Monday, November 11, 2013. Mr. Sims died Thursday, November 8, 2013, at Jacksonville Health & Rehab in Jacksonville, AL. Survivors include his wife, Izora Chappell Sims; three sons, Derrick Sims of Wedowee, Shawn Sims of Atlanta, GA, and Greg Sims of Wedowee; three stepsons, Danny Chappell of San Diego, CA, Kim Northington of Wedowee, and Marcus Northington; five sisters, Lovie M. Tyler of Atlanta, GA, Eldora Molden of Wadley, Anne Lois McClendon of Roanoke, Eva Houston of Atlanta, GA, and Yolanda F. Smith of Wedowee; and five brothers, Douglas Sims, Jr., Grady Lee Sims, Arthur Ray Sims, A.J. Sims, and Ivers Sims, all of Wedowee; Pallbearers will be Mr. Sims' nephews. A Randolph County native, Mr. Sims was born on May 5, 1946, the son of Doug and Fannie Mae Knight Sims. He was a member of Union Hill Baptist in Woodland and was a self-employed brick mason. Mr. Sims was preceded in death by his parents; one brother, Joe Frank; and three sisters, Ruth, Naomi, and Mary.
