Funeral services for James Edwin Lyle, Jr., age 89, of Delta will be held on Thursday, May 29, 2014, at 1:00 PM from Benefield Funeral Chapel with Rev. Randy Harrelson officiating. Burial will follow at Center West Baptist Cemetery.
The family will receive friends at the funeral home from 12:00-1:00 PM on Thursday, May 29.
Mr. Lyle passed away Saturday, May 24, 2014, at Brookwood Medical Center in Birmingham.
Survivors include his wife, Vivian Smith Lyle of Delta; two daughters, Judy (husband, Hank) Belcher of Vestavia and Connie (husband, Harry) Blalock of Hoover; one son, Dr. Michael (wife, Trudy) Lyle of Florence; two stepsons, David (wife, Tara) Moore and Andrew (wife, Rachel) Moore, both of Trussville; 20 grandchildren; 16 great-grandchildren; sister-in-law, Barbara (husband, Bobby) Bell of Delta; and brother-in-law, Wayne (wife, Linda) Smith of Montecello, GA. His family and dogs were the light of his life.
Pallbearers will be Eric Lyle Baker, Dr. Win Lyle, IV, Blakely Moore, Will Moore, and Garrett Reaves.
The son of James Edward Lyle, Sr., and Alice Boyce Lyle, Mr. Lyle was born on September 16, 1924, in Signal Mountain, Tennessee, and moved to Canton, Illinois, at the age of 15. He served in the Army in World War II as an engineer and was a graduate of the University of Tennessee and worked all his life mostly as an electrical contractor in Florence, AL, and Plano, TX. Mr. Lyle and his wife moved to Delta in 2010 and attended Center West Baptist Church. Prior to that they lived in Mountain Brook, AL, and attended Highland U.M.C. and were members of the Red Berry Sunday School Class. Mr. Lyle was preceded in death by his parents; one son, Dr. James E. Lyle, III; one grandson, Michael Jason Lyle; and one sister, Betty Lyle Thobe.
The family is accepting flowers or, in lieu of flowers, donations may be made to CWACC(Spay In Clay).
