Funeral services for Lena Craven New, age 79, of Newell will be held on Wednesday, July 16, 2014, at 2:00 PM from Benefield Funeral Chapel with Rev. Tim Craft officiating. Burial will follow at Union Baptist Church Cemetery.
The family will receive friends at the funeral home from 5:00-8:00 PM on Tuesday, July 15, 2014.
Mrs. New passed away Sunday, July 13, 2014, at Regional Medical Center in Anniston.
Survivors include: one son, Donald G. New and two grandchildren, Logan New and Jesse New.
Pallbearers will be Charles Burks, Jim Gunnels, Stanley Ford, Jacob Harper, Bobby Duke, and James New. Honorary pallbearer will be Delmer Hanner.
A Randolph County native, Mrs. New was born on November 8, 1934, the daughter of Stonewall Jackson and Nellie Craft Craven. She was a member of Union Baptist Church and was a nurse at Wedowee Hospital. Mrs. New was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Doyle Gay New; and one son, David Wayne New.
