Obituary
Funeral services for John Monroe Thurman, age 68, of Heflin will be held on Wednesday, August 13, 2014, at 2:00 PM from Benefield Funeral Chapel. Burial will follow at Cool Springs Methodist Church.
The family will receive friends at the funeral home from 5:00-8:00 PM on Tuesday, August 12, 2014.
Mr. Thurman passed away Sunday, August 10, 2014, at Wedowee Hospital.
Survivors include his wife, Kathy Ann Thurman of Heflin; three sons, Joshua Adam Thurman and Garrett Michael Thurman, both of Atlanta and Brian Tarantino; and three grandchildren.
Pallbearers will be Joshua Thurman, Garrett Thurman, Tommy Chapman, Cory Howland, Colin Baker, Darrell Harris, Gemmy Monis, and Ricky Gardner.
A Birmingham, England native, Mr. Thurman was born on April 15, 1946, the son of Giles Monroe and Joan Armstrong Thurman. He was a U.S. Army Vietnam Veteran, a member of Mt. Carmel Baptist Church, and was a machinist with Rexam Industries. Mr. Thurman was preceded in death by his parents; one daughter, Jacqueline Thurman; and one sister.
