Funeral services for Jerry Nix, 77, will be held on Monday, September 22 at 2:00 PM at Wedowee First United Methodist Church. Jerry Passed away on September 19, 2014.
Jerry was born on March 22, 1937 in LaGrange, Georgia to Doris Sikes Nix and Joseph Henry Nix. He is survived by his wife, Anne Marie; son, Lewis Joseph Nix(wife, Karah); son, Andrew Sykes Nix; and grandsons, Ashton Nix and Addison Nix. He is preceded in death by his parents and his sister, Gail Nix Thomas.
Jerry was a member of Wedowee First United Methodist Church, where he is still remembered as an outstanding Sunday school teacher.
Jerry graduate from Rome HIgh School in Rome, Georgia in 1955, where he lettered in football and basketball. Jerry went on to graduate from The University of Alabama with a Bachelor of Arts degree in History. He was an active member of and leader in Lambda Chi Alpha fraternity, serving twice as the president of the chapter at The University of Alabama and then as traveling secretary for the national fraternity.
Jerry began his professional career as Administrative Assistant for Lambda Chi Alpha in Indianapolis, Indiana. From there, he served as Assistant Dean of Men at The University of South Carolina in Columbia, South Carolina, and then as Director of Housing at The University of West Georgia(then West Georgia College) in Carrollton, Georgia. After moving to Wedowee in 1977, Jerry owned and operated floorcovering stores, including B&J Floorcovering and Backwater Carpet Outlet. He also served the community in numerous ways over the years, including as City Planner and as a member of the Utilities Board.
Jerry was a committed and loving husband, father and son who made every decision in his life with his family in mind. He loved golf, The University of Alabama, crossword puzzles, old westerns and good cigars. Jerry will be greatly missed by his family and the many others who knew and loved him.
