Obituary of Winfred Z. Meadows

Funeral services for Winfred Z. Meadows, age 87, of Woodland will be held on Sunday, March 1, 2015, at 3:30 PM from Herren’s Grove Baptist Church with Rev. Wayne Stevens, and Rev. David Daniel officiating. Burial will follow in the adjoining cemetery with Benefield Funeral Home of Wedowee in charge of arrangements. The family will receive friends at the funeral home from 5:00-8:00 PM on Saturday, February 28, 2015. Mr. Meadows will lie in state at the church for one hour prior to services beginning on Sunday. Mr. Meadows passed away Friday, February 27, 2015, at his residence. Survivors include his wife, Elizabeth Johnson Meadows of Woodland; three daughters, Rita Elizabeth Cofield (husband, Tommy) of Graham, Carol Meadows Mitchell (husband, Tommy) of Heflin; and Debbie Murphy Meadows of Woodland; one son, Winfred Ray Meadows of Willis, TX; seven grandchildren, Brent Nuckolls, Jennifer Levy, Michelle Justin, Amanda Johnson, Austin Meadows, Heather Edwards, and Heath Mitchell; eight great-grandchildren; and one sister, Ellen Meadows Traylor of Carrollton. Pallbearers will be Wayne Johnson, Austin Meadows, Chad Meadows, Morris Weseloh, Brent Nuckolls, Frankie Hullander, Scott Edwards, and Heath Mitchell. Honorary pallbearers will be Jerry Morrow, Byron Lovvorn, Ricky Spratlin, Mark Hullander, Dr. Jeff Stewart, Pierce Meadows, Dale Meadows, David Runyan, and David Harrington. A Randolph County native, Mr. Meadows was born on November 1, 1927, the son of Warren Z. and Esther Lovvorn Meadows. He was a member of Herren’s Grove Baptist Church, worked as a welder for Trent Tube, and was a United States Army Veteran of the Korean War. Mr. Meadows enjoyed welding, farming, and deer hunting. He was preceded in death by his parents; one son, Steve Meadows; three brothers, Willie J. Meadows, S.E. Meadows, and James Burlin Meadows; two sisters, Iva Lovvorn and Velma Butler; and one grandson, Stacey Nuckolls. Memorials may be floral or donations may be made to New Beacon Hospice.
