Obituary of Mary Lou Browning

Funeral services for Mary Lou Browning, age 88, of Wedowee will be held on Sunday, December 20, 2015, at 2:00 PM from Green’s Chapel United Methodist Church with Rev. Tommy Burke and Rev. Matt Browning officiating. Burial will follow in the adjoining cemetery with Benefield Funeral Home of Wedowee in charge of arrangements. The family will receive friends at the funeral home from 5:00-8:00 PM on Saturday, December 19, 2015. Mrs. Browning will lie in state at the church for one hour prior to services beginning on Sunday. Mrs. Browning passed away Friday, December 18, 2015, at the Cleburne County Nursing Home. Survivors include: one daughter, Kathy Quinn (husband, Allen) of Oxford; four sons, Wayne Browning of Wedowee, Jerry Browning (wife, Jan) of Wedowee; Mike Browning (wife, Jenny) of Carrollton, GA, and Ed Browning (wife, Pat) of Woodland; 14 grandchildren; 16 great-grandchildren; and four sisters, Irene McManus of Wedowee, Frances Kirby of Roanoke, Sara Kirby of Anniston, and Idell Wilder of Anniston. Pallbearers will be Mrs. Browning’s grandsons. A Wedowee native, Mrs. Browning was born on January 14, 1927, the daughter of Guy Felton Benefield, Sr., and Mattie Bell Owens Benefield. She was a member of Green’s Chapel United Methodist Church and worked at many occupations, most recently as the Director of the Wedowee Senior Center. Mrs. Browning was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Lovette H. Browning; one daughter, Janice McKee; one grandson, Craig Lee Atkinson; and two brothers, Morgan and Guy Felton, Jr.
