Obituary of Blanche Joan Williamson

Funeral services for Blanche Joan Williamson, age 77, of Newell will be held on Monday, March 21, 2016, at 1:00 PM at Caver’s Grove Christian Church with Rev. Larry Conger and Rev. Lee Parrish officiating. Burial will follow at Valley Grove Primitive Baptist Cemetery with Benefield Funeral Home of Wedowee in charge of arrangements. The family will receive friends at the funeral home from 5:00-8:00 PM on Sunday, March 20, 2016. Mrs. Williamson will lie in state at the church for one hour prior to services beginning on Monday. Mrs. Williamson passed away Friday, March 18, 2016, at her residence. Survivors include: one daughter, Mary Williamson of Wedowee; one son, Wayne Williamson of Newell; six grandchildren; six great-grandchildren; two brothers, Bob Hester of Opelika and Bill Hester of LaGrange, GA; and a host of nieces and nephews. A Woodland native, Mrs. Williamson was born on September 15, 1938, the daughter of Horace G. and Gusta I. Brown Hester. She was a member of Caver’s Grove Christian Church and worked as a seamstress for Lamar Manufacturing Company. Mrs. Williamson was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Durward Williamson; one great-grandchild; one sister; and three brothers.
