Obituary of William Carl Melton

Funeral services for William Carl Melton, age 74, of Wadley will be held on Wednesday, March 23, 2016, at 2:00 PM at Corinth Christian Church with Rev. Gordon Taylor and Rev. Johnny Bishop officiating. Burial will follow in the adjoining cemetery with Benefield Funeral Home of Wedowee in charge of arrangements. The family will receive friends at the funeral home from 5:00-8:00 PM on Tuesday, March 22, 2016. Mr. Melton will lie in state at the church for one hour prior to services beginning on Wednesday. Mr. Melton passed away Sunday, March 20, 2016, at Regional Medical Center in Anniston. Survivors include his wife, Chera Langley Melton of Wadley; two daughters, Kathy Coker (husband, Shane) of Wadley and Jodie Sweatt (husband, Brian) of Auburn; three sons, John William Melton (wife, Patrice) of Wadley, Adam Carl Melton (wife, Beth) of Roanoke, and Daniel Thomas Melton (wife, Brandy) of Wadley; ten grandchildren; three great-grandchildren; and one brother, James Reuben Melton of Atlanta. Pallbearers will be Dale Knight, Mathew Knight, Lance Raughton, John Cooper, Scott Craven, and Tony Calhoun. A Wadley native, Mr. Melton was born on August 19, 1941, the son of William Hubbard and Barbara Florence Wright Melton. He was a member of Corinth Christian Church, a member of the Randolph County Cattlemen Association and worked for the Randolph County Co-op for 47 years. Mr. Melton was preceded in death by his parents and a son, Richard Keith Melton. Memorials may be floral or donations may be made to the Corinth Cemetery Fund or the American Diabetes Association.
