Obituary of Alvin Eugene Harper

Funeral services for Gene Harper, age 77, of Lineville will be held on Saturday, May 14, 2016, at 2:00 PM from the Benefield Funeral Chapel with Rev. E.J. Burton and Rev. Shannon Mapp officiating. Burial will follow at Wedowee City Cemetery with Benefield Funeral Home of Wedowee in charge of arrangements. The family will receive friends at the funeral home from 4:00-6:00 PM on Friday, May 13, 2016. Mr. Harper passed away Wednesday, May 11, 2016, at Clay County Hospital. Survivors include his wife, Brenda Harper of Lineville; one daughter, Brittany Marie Harper Johnson of Delta; three sons, Michael Eugene Harper, Timothy Wayne Harper, and Samuel Mark Harper, all of Dallas, GA; one granddaughter, Mandy Harper Lee; one grandson, Chris Harper; three great-grandchildren; and two sisters, Miriam Timmons of Villa Rica, Ga, and Helen Smith of Roan Mountain, TN. A Carroll County native, Mr. Harper was born on January 8, 1939, the son of Addis and Elsie Jackson Harper. He was Baptist by faith and worked as a mechanic for Delta Airlines. Mr. Harper was preceded in death by his parents; one brother, Gerald Harper, and one grandson, Shon Harper. Memorials may be floral or donations may be made to the Clay County or Randolph County Animal Shelter.
