Fincher was born in Bowdon, Ga., and raised in the Newell community. She was a 1977 graduate of Woodland High School and went on to receive a bachelor of education degree from Jacksonville State University.
Fincher served as a high school English teacher at Woodland for 17 years. She later returned to Jacksonville State to receive a master’s degree in media studies and transitioned to the librarian position at Woodland for the final nine years of her career in education, retiring in 2007.
She volunteered her time with several organizations, including the Randolph County Animal Shelter and the Lighthouse Soup Kitchen, and was an active member of Bear Creek United Methodist Church.
In her free time, Fincher enjoyed being in the company of family and friends, spending time with her pets both at home and at the animal shelter, gardening, singing in the Bear Creek church choir, listening to music, line dancing with the Randolph Liners, traveling, taking walks and reading a good mystery novel.

She was preceded in death by her parents, Bernice and Eva Merrell Herren; four brothers, Coy Herren, Myrl Herren, Danny Herren and James Clyde Herren; and one infant sister, Linda.
Pallbearers will be Chip Fincher, Toby Fincher, Jacob McLeod, Tommy Hartley, Tommy Bradford and Jimmy Lee.
