Obituary of Bobby G. Harvel, Sr.

Funeral services for Bobby Gay “Bob” Harvel, Sr., age 76, of Alex City, will be held on Sunday, May 7, 2017, at 2:00 PM from Benefield Funeral Chapel with Rev. Terry Graham, Rev. Ronnie Burson, and Robert Eason officiating. Burial will follow at Levens Baptist Church Cemetery with Benefield Funeral Home in charge of arrangements.
The family will receive friends at the funeral home from 12:00 PM – 2:00 PM on Sunday, May 7, 2017.
Mr. Harvel passed away on Friday, May 5, 2017 at Bethany House.
Bob is survived by his wife of 25 years, Evelynn; three sons, B.G. Harvel of Anniston, Todd (Cindy) Harvel of Wedowee, and Brian (Becca) Wilson of san Antonio, Texas; six grandchildren, Sheree Harvel of Roanoke, Shana Harvel of LaGrange, GA, Blake Harvel of Woodland, Zack Harvel of Wedowee, Patrick and Samantha Wilson of Auburn; two great-grandchildren, Lily Harvel and Julian Wilson; sister, Marylene (Jr.) Nelson; and brother, Bill (Judy) Harvel.
Pallbearers will be Barry Nelson, Billy Harvel, Wayne Rampy, Keith Rampy, Zack Harvel, Blake Harvel, Patrick Wilson, and Josh Yerta.  Honorary pallbearers will be special friends from the Randolph County High School Class of 1959 and Jim Bob and Martha Smith, John and Ann Mitchell.
A Randolph County native, Mr. Harvel was born on January 17, 1941, the son of Ceph and Myrtis Dodson Harvel. He was a member of First Baptist Church of Roanoke and worked as a clothing salesman.  He was a hard-working, successful businessman, founder of Chris Gay Manufacturing Co., Roanoke Skate Center, and owned and operated a Rock Quarry in Alexander City along with several other businesses. His favorite pastime was golfing and playing dominoes. He also enjoyed Nascar and all sports. He was preceded in death by his parents, sister, Reba Rampy, and one infant son.
