Obituary of Garlan Paul Ward

Funeral services for Paul Ward, age 79, of Wedowee will be held on Wednesday, September 12, 2018, at 1:00 PM at Benefield Funeral Chapel with Rev. Charlie Reed and Rev. Larry Howard officiating.  Burial will follow at Monger Cemetery in Jacksonville, Alabama.

The family will receive friends at the funeral home from 11:00 AM -1:00 PM on Wednesday, September 12, 2018.

Mr. Ward passed away Monday, September 10, 2018, at Gadsden Regional Medical Center in Gadsden, Alabama.

Survivors include: two daughters, Tina Lucinda Ward (Joey) Hudson of Wedowee and Tanya (Scott) Maddox of Hokes Bluff; five grandchildren; seven great-grandchildren; and two sisters, Martha Waldrop and Betty Creed, both of Wedowee.

Pallbearers will be Jack Sheppard, Charlie Reed, Dustin Ward, Josh Scarbary, Scott Ward, Steven Waldrop, Alex Ward, and Brent Scarbary.  Honorary pallbearers will be Mr. Ward’s grandchildren.

A Wedowee native, Mr. Ward was born on August 24, 1939, the son of Garlan Eugene and Carrie Irene Hardy Ward.  He was a member of Zion Church of God and was a farmer.  Mr. Ward was preceded in death by his parents; one son, Tracy Ward; one granddaughter, Nicole Maddox; one sister, Mary Jarrell; and five brothers, Winston Hardy, William Ward, John Ward, David Ward, Zachariah Ward.

In lieu of flowers, donations may be made toward funeral expenses.
