Obituary of Grady Milton Wakefield

Funeral services for Grady Milton Wakefield, age 88, of Wedowee, AL, will be held on Monday, November 5, 2018 at 2:00 PM from First United Methodist Church of Wedowee with Rev. Roger Hammett and Josh Hickman officiating.  Burial will follow at Wedowee City Cemetery with Benefield Funeral Home in charge of the arrangements

The family will receive friends at the funeral home from 4:30-8:00 PM on Sunday, November 4, 2018. Mr. Wakefield will lie in state at the church one hour prior to services beginning on Monday.

Mr. Wakefield passed away Friday, November 2, 2018, at Bill Nichols Veterans Home in Alexander City, AL.

He is survived by his wife, Ruth Wakefield of Wedowee; one daughter, Deborah Ann Williamson of Trenton, Florida; two grandchildren; one brother, R.C. Wakefield of Birmingham, AL.

Pallbearers will be Justin Williamson, John Mote, Ron Waters, David Johnson, Jack Burnside, Carl Battles, Doug Grant and Steve Wakefield.  Honorary Pallbearers will be Billy Fred Lipham, Rayford Edmondson, Gerald McCord and Gideons.

A resident of Wedowee, Mr. Wakefield was born on January 19, 1930, the son of Newt Ross Wakefield and Coy Etta Whatley Wakefield.   Mr. Wakefield served in the Air Force and served in the Korean War. He worked as a County Agent for the Auburn Extension Office. He was a member of First United Methodist Church of Wedowee. He is preceded in death by his parents; two wives Vemell Spain Wakefield, Maxine Lipham Wakefield; one daughter Nancy Carol Wakefield.
