Obituary of Mae Houston
Funeral services for Mae Tom Houston, age 100, of Wedowee will be held on Saturday, January 5, 2019, a 1:00 PM at Zion’s Rest Baptist Church with Rev. William Phillips officiating. Burial will follow in the adjoining cemetery with Benefield Funeral Home in charge of arrangements.
The family will receive friends at the funeral home from 5:00-7:00 PM on Friday, January 4, 2019. Mrs. Houston will lie in state at the church for one hour prior to services beginning on Saturday.
Mrs. Houston passed away Thursday, December 27, 2018, at her residence.
Survivors include: six daughters, Ethel Houston of Anniston, Tressie Ware of Roanoke, Joann Stone of Wedowee, Beverly Bailey of Wedowee, Linda Lawson of Wedowee, and Alice Berry of Phenix City; 28 grandchildren; 47 great-grandchildren; and 15 great-great-grandchildren.
A Randolph County native, Mrs. Houston was born on March 3, 1918, the daughter of Tom and Ruth Green Williams. She was a member of Zion’s Rest Baptist Church and worked as a seamstress at Fashion Star. Mrs. Houston was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Wesley Houston; four sons, Leon, William, Martin, and James; a granddaughter, LaShonda; and a sister, Naomi Knox.
