Obituary of Walter Lewis Heard

Funeral services for Walter Lewis Heard, age 70, of Wedowee will be held on Saturday, April 20, 2019, at 1:00 PM at Benefield Funeral Chapel with Rev. A. J. Sims officiating.  Burial will follow at Pleasant Grove Cemetery in the mountains.

The family will receive friends at the funeral home from 5:00-8:00 PM on Friday, April 19, 2019.

Mr. Heard passed away Sunday, April 14, 2019, at Regional Medical Center in Anniston, Alabama.

Survivors include: two sisters, Elizabeth Knight and Mary Heard Finley, both of Wedowee; two brothers, Wilson Early Heard of Wadell, AZ, and John Milist Heard of Detroit, MI; and a host of nieces and nephews.

Pallbearers will be Mr. Heard’s nephews.

A Wedowee native, Mr. Heard was born on October 25, 1948, the son of Jack Early and Mattie Will Heflin Heard.  He was Baptist by faith and worked as a forklift driver for Herren’s Brothers Sawmill.  Mr. Heard was preceded in death by his parents; four brothers, William, Josh, Joseph, and Edward; and two sisters, Myrtie Will Herring and Rosa Lee Heard.
