Obituary of Mary Louise Akins

Funeral services for Mary Louise Akins, age 80, of Graham will be held on Thursday, October 31, 2019, at 2:00 PM at Benefield Funeral Chapel with T. J. Morgan officiating.  Burial will follow at Union Baptist Cemetery.

The family will receive friends at the funeral home from 5:00-7:00 PM on Wednesday, October 30, 2019.

Mrs. Akins passed away Tuesday, October 29, 2019, at Pine Knoll Nursing Home in Carrollton, Georgia.

Survivors include: one daughter, Barbara Jean Whitley of Heflin; two sons, Jerry Wayne Whitley of Heflin and Jimmy Wayne Ballenger of Anniston; two stepdaughters, Agatha Gay and Nelda Smith; five stepsons, Larry Whitley, Freddy Whitley, Tom Whitley, Elton Akins, and Bennie Akins; several grandchildren and great-grandchildren; one sister, Betty Parrish of Wadley; and special granddaughter, Becky Akins.

Pallbearers will be Phillip Pauley, Jamie Turley, Tom Whitley, Elton Akins, Bennie Akins, and Matt Akins.  Honorary pallbearer will be Clint Roundtree.

A Randolph County native, Mrs. Akins was born on March 26, 1939, the daughter of Houston and Lula Mae Willingham Hudgins.  She was a member of Pinetucky Baptist Church and was a homemaker.  Mrs. Akins was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Offie Akins; daughter, Mary Francis Nolen; son, Willie Ballenger; son-in-law, Johnny Whitley; and three brothers.
