Obituary of Alma Louise Vowell

A Celebration of Life service for Alma Louise Vowell will be held Friday December 6, 2019 at 6:00 pm at the Chapel of Benefield Funeral Home in Wedowee, AL with Reverend Josh Kennedy officiating.  Visitation will be from 4:30 pm – 6:00 pm prior to the service.

Alma, age 72, passed away Saturday morning November 23, 2019 at UAB Hospital in Birmingham.  Though broken hearted, we understand her pain is at ease now.

Alma, a native of Baltimore, Maryland, was born on November 17, 1947.  She was an active member of Chesapeake Christian Fellowship in Maryland and spent her career employed by Prince Georges County Government.   After retirement, she and her husband moved down south to spend their days in Alma’s dream home on Lake Wedowee.  She fell in love with the lake, fellowship and food with family and friends and the way of small-town country living.

She is survived by her husband of 51 years, Larry Vowell; children, Chappy (Natalie) Vowell, Matthew (Krystal) Vowell, both of Maryland; Heidi Oxley of Delaware; Vania (Curt) Milnes of Maryland; nine grandchildren, Baylee Vowell, Chloe Vowell, Kenny Lowe, Mattalyn Vowell, Dakota Vowell, Ashli Adkins, Cierra Stack, Raegan Milnes, Jace Milnes;  two great-grandchildren, Haylee Yingling and Aubree Yingling.

Alma was preceded in death by her father, Leonard Seekford; her mother and step-father, Calvin and Sally Volk; as well as her sister, Betty Jean Spicknall.
