Obituary of Alfred Brooks

Funeral services for Alfred Brooks, age 85, of Wedowee will be held on Tuesday, January 14, 2020, at 11:00 AM at Benefield Funeral Chapel with Rev. David Little, Bro. Bob Karcher, Bro. Bill Prince, Bro. Gerald Dial, and Bro. Ricky Daniel officiating. Burial will follow at Delta Cemetery. The family will receive friends at the funeral home from 4:30-8:00 PM on Monday, January 13, 2020. Mr. Brooks passed away Saturday, January 11, 2020, at his residence surrounded by family. Survivors include his wife, Nancy Brooks of Wedowee; one daughter, Lisa Wortham (Wesley) of Wedowee; one son, David Brooks (Joy) of Wedowee; five grandchildren, Morgan Wortham Pinkard, Tayla Thompson, Dylan Thompson, Maison Thompson, and Brooks Wortham; two great-grandchildren, Peyton Pinkard and Kynlee Pinkard; and one sister, Lou Clarke of Lineville. Pallbearers will be Brooks Wortham, Dylan Thompson, Matt Pinkard, Bill Williamson, Chad Lee, Keith Clarke, Jerry Huddleston, and Tommy Lovvorn. Honorary pallbearers will be Bobby Stewart, Hulond Humphries, Ron Watters, L. V. Summerlin, Jr., Johnny Summerlin, Alan Satterwhite, and Charles “Sonny” Shaddix. A Delta native, Mr. Brooks was born on July 3, 1934, the son of Albert and Myrtie Shaddix Brooks. He was a member of the First Baptist Church of Wedowee and worked as a civil engineer for the Soil Conservation Service. Mr. Brooks was preceded in death by his parents; two brothers, Alvin L. Brooks and Marcus J. Brooks; and one nephew, Tim Brooks. Memorials may be floral or donations may be made to the Randolph County Animal Shelter at 104 Animal Shelter Rd, Wedowee, AL 36278.
