A Wedowee native, Ms. Adamson was born on January 3, 1922, the daughter of P. W. and Myrtle Bailey Holloway. She was not only loved by her family but was a substitute mother for numerous people. People were amazed at how young she looked and how many things that she could do at her age.
Cordell was known for crocheting and quilting blankets for her family. Her favorite foods to carry to church socials were banana pudding and green beans. Last summer she raised green beans in her small garden and canned many quarts of them. She always had beautiful flowers. She loved to prepare her family’s favorite foods when they would visit like her vegetable soup and fried pies.
Cordell (Nan) didn’t act her age and loved to have fun. She could work circles around all of us younger people. She continued to drive and lived by herself. She had a sharp memory and could remember much more than others. She was faithful to attend Sunday morning worship services and made sure her girls were in church for all services. She enjoyed making items and taking them to Traylor’s Nursing Home as a project through Calvary Baptist Church. She was a member of Mt. Pleasant Baptist Church and enjoyed attending Sunday evening services. An annual task of hers was to make sure that all family members’ graves were decorated with flowers. Cordell volunteered at the Christian Service Center for many years and thoroughly enjoyed doing so.
All of Cordell’s girls were given piano and music lessons. She was thrifty, and even during difficult times, she made sure her girls always had Christmas presents. Cordell always wanted what was best for others even though she sacrificed her desires because of it. She wanted everyone to behave, live right, and would tell you when you didn’t. We are all going to miss her wisdom, love, and desire for us to be the best that we could be.
Ms. Adamson was preceded in death by her parents; infant daughter, Barbara Ann Adamson; brothers, Easul, Roy, Ezra, J. D., Doyle, Hasel, Newman, and Onward Holloway; and sisters, Verdie Pool, Mae White, and Dura Lane.
