Obituary of Rosa Lee Carpenter

Funeral services for Rosa Lee Carpenter, age 90, of Wedowee will be held on Wednesday, July 15, 2020, at 2:00 PM at Benefield Funeral Chapel with Bro. Barrett Holloway and Bro. Chris Mitchell officiating.  Burial will follow at Macedonia Primitive Baptist Cemetery in Ashland.

The family will receive friends at the funeral home from 6:00-8:00 PM on Tuesday, July 14, 2020.

Mrs. Carpenter passed away Sunday, July 12, 2020, at Traylor’s Nursing Center in Roanoke.

Survivors include: four daughters and their husbands, Elaine and Ben Beaird, Sherry and Frank Foster, Jr., and Donna and Chris Mitchell, all of Roanoke, and Lisa and Tim Brown of Newell; one son and his wife, Mark and Renae Carpenter of Woodland; 11 grandchildren, Emily Roach, Paul Beaird, Amanda Green, Trae Foster, Ashley Johnson, Jeff Mitchell, Ryan Mitchell, Leslie Gibbs, Scott Carpenter, Hannah

 Brown, and Bethany Terry; and 21 great-grandchildren.

Pallbearers will be Paul Beaird, Jeff Mitchell, Ryan Mitchell, Trae Foster, Tim Brown, and Scott Carpenter.

An Ashland native, Mrs. Carpenter was born on January 15, 1930, the daughter of Joseph E. and Pearly McKinney Hart. She was a member of Cherith Baptist Church and had a home-operated daycare where she cared for many children who called her MaMa Rosa.  Mrs. Carpenter was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Willis Harmon Carpenter; three sisters, Mae Belle Waites, Mary Davis and Pearly Salter; and two brothers, James Hart and William Hart.
