Obituary of Emmett Lamar Smith

Funeral services for Emmett Lamar Smith, age 76, of Roanoke will be held on Tuesday, February 2, 2021, at 2:00 PM at Benefield Funeral Chapel with Bro. Scott Whaley and Bro. Shannon Mapp officiating.  Burial will follow at Potash Cemetery.

The family will receive friends at the funeral home from 5:00-8:00 PM on Monday, February 1, 2021.

Mr. Smith passed away Saturday, January 30, 2021, at Tanner Medical Center in Carrollton.

Survivors include his wife, Nancy Smith of Roanoke; one daughter, Shannon Reeves (Clay) of Whitesburg, GA; two sons, Randall Smith (Amy) of Woodland and Tony Smith (Kristy) of Roanoke; seven grandchildren; two sisters, Betty Baker of Wedowee and Kathy Freeman of Ranburne; and three brothers, Alvin Smith (Mary Jewell) and Larry Smith (Carolyn), both of Roanoke, and Waymon Smith of Woodland.

Pallbearers will be Clayton Reeves, Riley Smith, Daniel Bozeman, Jason Hester, Richie Smith, Paul Wiggins, Clint Bailey, and Kolby Smith.

A Randolph County native, Mr. Smith was born on July 29, 1944, the son of James Oscar and Leona Baldwin Smith.  He was a member of Big Springs Baptist Church and was a self-employed logger.  Mr. Smith was preceded in death by his parents; an infant child, Steven Smith; and siblings, Calvin Smith, James Ray Smith, Clyde Smith, and Edith Steely.
