Obituary of Yago Esau Mejia

Funeral services for Yago Esau Mejia, age 2, of Roanoke will be held on Thursday, July 8, 2021, at Benefield Funeral Chapel at 6:00 PM with Pastor Darien Gonzalez officiating.  A private burial will follow at Abel Baptist Cemetery in Cleburne County at a later time.

The family will receive friends at the funeral home from 4:00-6:00 PM on Thursday before services begin.

Yago passed away Sunday, July 4, 2021, at Children’s Hospital in Birmingham, Alabama.

Survivors include his parents, Caitlin Paige Wulff Mejia of Roanoke and Melvi Edvi Mejia-Gonzalez of Delta; maternal grandparents, Elena and Todd Wulff of Roanoke and Tammy Bell and Steven Johnson of LaGrange, GA; paternal grandparents, Moises Mejia and Aracely Gonzalez, both of Delta; two brothers, Leonel Levi Mejia and Jordan Alexander Mejia; five aunts and three uncles.

Pallbearers will be Brandon Nicholson, Bradley Johnson, Abel Gonzalez, and Wilfido Gonzalez.

A Randolph County resident, Yago was born in Anniston, Alabama on June 30, 2019, the son of Melvi Edvi Mejia-Gonzalez and Caitlin Paige Wulff-Mejia.

Memorials may be floral or donations may be made to Benefield Funeral Home to go toward final expenses.
