Obituary of Ruth Grant Wakefield

Funeral services for Ruth Grant Wakefield, age 87, of Wedowee will be held on Monday, January 3, 2022, at Benefield Funeral Chapel with Bro. Todd Noren-Hentz officiating.  Burial will follow at Wedowee City Cemetery.

The family will receive friends at the funeral home from 12:00-2:00 PM on Monday before services begin.

Mrs. Wakefield passed away Friday, December 24, 2021, at Tanner-East Alabama Medical Center in Wedowee. 

Survivors include: one step-daughter, Tasha Higgins of Wedowee, AL; one step-son, Josh Higgins (Rachael) of Wedowee; and several nieces and one nephew.

A Wedowee native, Mrs. Wakefield was born on November 19, 1934, the daughter of Columbus Loyd and Nancy Wilson Grant.  She was a member of the First United Methodist Church of Wedowee and retired from the Randolph County Probate Judge’s Office.  Mrs. Wakefield was preceded in death by her parents; two husbands, Jack Brooks and Grady Wakefield; one sister, three brothers; and longtime companion, Robert Higgins.
