Obituary of Robert Knight Jr

Graveside services for Robert Knight, Jr., age 67, of Wedowee will be held on Saturday, January 8, 2022, at 1:00 PM at Benefield Funeral Chapel with Rev. Craig McClure and Rev. Sylvester L. Parker officiating.  Burial will follow at Union Chapel United Methodist Church Cemetery.

The family will receive friends at the funeral home from 4:00-7:00 PM on Friday, January 7, 2022.

Mr. Knight passed away on Saturday, January 1, 2022, at UAB Hospital in Birmingham, Alabama.

Survivors include his wife, Thelma Pierson Knight of Wedowee; one daughter, Anita A. Knight of Wedowee; three sons, Eric Pierson (wife, Kimberly) of Snellville, GA, James L. Knight and Robert T. Knight, both of Wedowee; 13 grandchildren; one sister, Lola Mae Wright of Wedowee; two half-sisters, Brenda Garrett and Catherine Salazar, both of Levelland, TX; and two half-brothers, John Robert Davenport and James Larry Davenport, both of Levelland, TX.

Pallbearers will be Eric Pierson, James Knight, Robert Knight, Lamar Wright, Jeremiah Knight, and Keith Jordan.  Flower attendants will be Mr. Knight’s nieces and nephews.

A Wedowee native, Mr. Knight was born on October 18, 1954, the son of John Robert and Lolene Andrews Davenport.  He was a member of Union Chapel Union Methodist Church, a United States Army veteran, and worked as a brick mason for Pyramid in Decatur, GA.  Mr. Knight was preceded in death by his parents; two sisters, Jessie Mae Knight and Mary L. Jordan; and three brothers, King E. Knight, Johnny G. Knight, and James L. Knight.
