Obituary of Ruby Whitmore Roberts

Funeral services for Ruby W. Roberts, age 87, of Newell, will be held at 11:00 am on Saturday, January 22, 2022, at Benefield Funeral Chapel with Rev. Steve Dempsey officiating.  Burial will follow at Union Baptist Church cemetery (7645 Old Hwy 431, Newell).

The family will receive friends at the funeral home beginning at 10:00 am on Saturday.

Mrs. Roberts passed away on Wednesday, January 19, 2022, at Clay County Hospital.

Survivors include two sons, Larry Roberts (wife, Anita) of Newell and Gary Roberts (significant other, Sheila Tarpley) of Bowdon, Ga.; one sister, Flora Harper of Bowdon, Ga.; four brothers, Ralph Whitmore of Bessemer, Horace Whitmore of Felton, Ga., Wendell Whitmore of Conyers, Ga. And Ray Whitmore of Senoia, Ga.; grandchildren, Brandon Roberts, John Roberts, Melanie Strain, Whitney Roberts and Scott Greenwood; great-grandchildren, Peyton Wilson, Cadon Strain, Evan Strain, Rudy Stain, Logan Roberts, Waylon Roberts and Tristan Greenwood.

Pallbearers will be grandsons, great-grandsons and family friend, Danny Daniel.

A Randolph County native, Mrs. Roberts was born February 16, 1934, the daughter of Henry E. and Beulah Daniel Whitmore.  She was a member of Union Baptist Church and retired from Bremen-Bowdon Investment Company.  She loved crocheting and quilting, Alabama football and George Jones’ music.  She was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Arthur Roberts; one son, Danny Roberts; three brothers, Lee Whitmore, Thurman Whitmore and Archie Whitmore.
