Obituary of William Larry Smith
Funeral services for William Larry Smith, age 81, of Wedowee, formerly of Fairburn, GA, will be held on Friday, March 25, 2022, at 11:00 AM CST at Benefield Funeral Chapel with Rev. Todd Noren-Hentz, Rev. John Tal Murphree, and Grady Smith officiating. Burial will follow on Saturday, March 26, 2022, at 11:00 AM EST at Holly Hill Memorial Park in Fairburn, GA.
The family will receive friends at the funeral home from 5:00-7:00 PM CST on Thursday, March 24, 2022.
Mr. Smith passed away Monday, March 21, 2022, at his residence.
Survivors include his wife, Carole B. Smith of Wedowee; one daughter, Suzanne Breedlove (David) of Newnan, GA; one son, Grady Smith of Memphis, TN; four grandchildren, Dana West (Jonathan), Daren Breedlove (Tina), Will Smith, and Robina Smith; four great-grandchildren; two sisters, Linda Schroeder of Minnesota and Donna Collins (Floyd) of Newnan, GA; and several nieces and nephews and great-nieces and great-nephews.
Pallbearers will be friends and family.
A South Carolina native, Mr. Smith was born on December 3, 1940, the son of Ariail and Geneva Gordon Smith. He was a member of the First United Methodist Church of Wedowee and retired after working as a pharmacist for 33 years. Mr. Smith was well known in the area for building tin man bird feeders. He collected and donated approximated 900-1,000 lbs. of aluminum pop tabs to the Ronald McDonald House Charities in Atlanta, Birmingham, and the Charleston, South Carolina house. Throughout his life, Mr. Smith was a Sunday School teacher, church treasurer, scout leader, little league president, volunteer fireman, and actively participated in organizations for children.
He was preceded in death by his parents, three sisters, and two brothers.
