Obituary of Roy Charles Murphy

Funeral services for Roy Charles Murphy, age 76, of Irondale will be held on Thursday, October 13, 2022, at 2:00 PM at Benefield Funeral Chapel with Rev. David Awtrey and Bro. Marty Schwartz officiating.  Burial will follow at Midway United Methodist Cemetery.

The family will receive friends at the funeral home from 12:00-2:00 PM on Thursday before services begin.

Mr. Murphy passed away on Monday, October 10, 2022, at Grandview Medical Center in Birmingham, AL.

Survivors include his wife of 55 years, Sandra Boyd Murphy of Irondale; two sons, J. Donovan Murphy of Birmingham and Patrick Murphy of Wedowee; brother-in-law, Benny Cosper; and nieces and nephews, Tawyna and Jeff Cash, Ben and Robin Cash, Ramsey Kate Cash, Chris Cash, Jordan Cash, Marlee Cash, and Kipton Cash.

Pallbearers will be Jeffery Cash, Scott Richardson, John Harmon, Gary Price, Marv Smith, and Ben Cash.

A Roanoke native, Mr. Murphy was born on December 27, 1945, the son of Basil T. and Ethol Brady Murphy.  He was a member of New Home United Methodist Church and was a retired Bellsouth repairman, where he had worked for 30 years.  Mr. Murphy was a graduate of R.C.H.S. where he played four years of football and was also a veteran of the United States Navy.  He was preceded in death by his parents; one sister, Sandra M. Langley; and one brother, Jerry Murphy.
