Born on March 29, 1946, Larry grew up in Heflin, Alabama where he graduated from Cleburne County High School in 1964 and enrolled at Jacksonville State University and was a proud member of the Jacksonville State University Marching Southerners. He and Martha married in 1966, and he soon graduated in 1968 with a degree in music. He was band director at various schools for 7 years, including Central High School (Carrollton, GA), Lineville High School and finally, Woodland High School where he founded the Woodland High School Marching Band. Larry soon began teaching special education after earning master’s and a specialist degrees in special education from West Georgia College in which he retired after 38 years all together in education.

Larry loved music, history, HAM radio, fried catfish, big TVs, and genealogy. He loved the Marching Southerners. He was a professional photographer, arm-chair astronomer, and as an avid genealogist, he even wrote a book detailing the family history of the Cochran family. He loved to give. He loved vacations at the beach and traveling or camping with his long-time friends Betty and Tom Hodge and their family. He loved the Atlanta Braves (sometimes), and even though they are hard to love, he still loved the Atlanta Falcons whether he admitted it or not.

More than anything on this earth, he loved his family. His wife, son, daughter-in-law, and grandchildren were his pride and joy. In particular, he loved taking day trips with his wife, Martha, to Panama City to eat at Captain Anderson’s for dinner and enjoy a box of fresh Krispy Kreme doughnuts for the ride home. He loved his church (Zion Baptist) where he served as Minister of Music for a time and eventually as Deacon. Most importantly, he loved Jesus Christ. His faith in God led him daily and defined him more than anything. Above all, Larry Morrison loved. It was a life well-lived.
