Obituary of Horace Leroy Turner

Funeral services for Horace Leroy Turner, age 71, of Wedowee will be held on Thursday, December 8, 2022, at 12:00 PM at Benefield Funeral Chapel.   

The family will receive friends at the funeral home from 11:00 AM - 12:00 PM on Thursday before services begin.

Mr. Turner passed away on Thursday, December 1, 2022, in Wedowee, Alabama.

Survivors include his wife of 43 years, Jean Birdsong Turner of Wedowee, Ala.; daughter, Weltha Elaine Smith (Wallace) of Helena, Ala.; sons, Jerome Spratlin of Wadley, Ala., Chris Turner (Trisha) of Oceanside, Ca., Shawn Turner (Michelle) of Columbus, OH., and Rodney Turner (Stacey Ann) of Glen Burnie, MD.; eleven grandchildren, seven great-grandchildren; sister, Marie Williams of Atlanta, GA.; brother, Robert Turner of Atlanta; brothers-in-law, Charles Birdsong of Ohio, Jerry Birdsong of MI., Raymond Birdsong (Julia) of OH., Tommy Birdsong (Lorraine) of OH., Jimmy Birdsong (Lynn) of AL., Sammy Hill of AL., and Eddie Hill of MT.; sister-in-law, Janet Hill-King; special friends to Jimmy Clyde Roundtree and Leonard Lee; and a host of nieces and nephews.

Mr. Turner was born on November 1, 1951, the son of the late Willis and Julia Ann Holloway Turner. He was a member of Union Chapel United Methodist Church where he served as a Trustee. He worked as supervisor in the Cast House at Franklin Aluminum. Mr. Turner married the love of his life on December 9, 1979. He loved to fish, garden, and drag race in his younger days.
