Obituary of Michael Smith

Funeral services for Michael Smith, age 69, of Graham will be held on Saturday, March 4, 2023, at 2:00 PM at Gold Ridge Baptist Church with Rev. T.J. Morgan and Rev. David Daniel officiating.  Burial will follow at the adjoining cemetery with Benefield Funeral Home in charge of arrangements

The family will receive friends at the church from 3:30-8:00 pm on Friday, March 3. Mr. Smith will lie in state for one hour prior to services on Saturday.

Mr. Smith passed away on Wednesday, March 1, 2023 in Graham, AL.

Survivors include his wife, Nelda Akins Smith; daughters, Kimberly Rodriguez (Chris) of Woodland, Ala., and Kristi Morgan (Terry) of Bowdon, GA.; son, Stacy Smith of Graham, Ala.; four grandchildren, Alexus Smith, Skyler Smith, Joshua Rodriguez and Jonathan Rodriguez; one great-grandchild, Isabella Smith; brother, Joe Crosby (Teresa) of Gadsden, Ala.; Sister-in-law, Agatha Gay (Hoyt); and brothers-in-law, Bennie Akins (Faye) and Elton Akins.

Pallbearers will be Wayne Akins, Elton Akins, Benny Akins, Steve Akins, Dana Akins, and Brandon Brown. Honorary pallbearers will be his nieces and nephews.

Mr. Smith was born in Anniston on March 24, 1953, the son of Alton and Myra Kemp Smith. He was Baptist by faith and worked for Carlisle Tire. Mr. Smith was preceded in death by his parents; and one sister, Harriett Brown; and one nephew, Chad Brown.
