Obituary of Lotice Marie Lovvorn Benefield Jones
Lotice Marie Lovvorn Benefield Jones of Niceville, Florida, formerly of Jacksonville, Alabama, passed away quietly, on April 28, 2023, at The Manor at Blue Water Bay, Niceville, Florida surrounded by her children. She was 24 days short of her 93rd birthday. Lotice, a daughter of Shellie McDuffie Lovvorn and Mary Ella Hinton, was born on the 22nd day of May 1930, a day when an unseasonable spring snow covered the crops in Woodland, Randolph County, Alabama. Lotice was predeceased by two husbands, Wilson Franklin Benefield (1924-1953) by whom she had two daughters; and Master Sergeant John Henry Jones (1909-1965) by whom she had a son and a daughter; her parents; and brothers Tug Lovvorn and Numan Lovvorn.
Lotice earned a Bachelor's and a Master's degree in education from Jacksonville State University and taught school in the Jacksonville community. She enjoyed gardening, sewing, and painting-but she was most passionate about her four children. She is survived by Patricia Ann Benefield Stoelk (Richard); Linda Marie Benefield; Colonel (ret.) Timothy Alan Jones (Theresa); and Anita Susan Jones Hanson (Kerry); grandchildren Garry, David, and Jordan Stoelk; Megan, John, and Daniel Jones; and Kamron, Nicholas, and Carly Hanson; six great-grandchildren; and many dear friends at The Manor at Blue Water Bay.
Graveside services with Pastor Steve West officiating, will be held May 8, 2023, at 10:00 a.m. (CST) at Greens Chapel United Methodist Church, 897 County Road 613, Wedowee, Randolph County, Alabama 36278. In lieu of flowers, memorials can be made to the First United Methodist Church of Jacksonville, 109 Gayle Avenue SW, Jacksonville, Alabama 36265.
