Obituary of Jacqueline Giffone
Jacqueline Giffone passed peacefully at her home in Wedowee, Alabama, on Saturday, August 26, 2023. “Jackie” (to those dear to her) was born October 19. 1939, to Ernest and Sarah Genett McCord and raised in Woodland, Alabama, with her sister, Judy Shouse (pre-deceased) and brother Steve McCord.
Jackie met her beloved John Giffone (pre-deceased) in Albuquerque, New Mexico, while he was stationed at Kirkland Air Force Base. They met at a drive-in-restaurant where she roller skated right into his heart. They were both avid travelers and enjoyed their lives together living in New Mexico, Florida, Nevada, Alabama, Alaska, and Iceland. They raised two children, Anita (pre-deceased) and Rocky.
In Jackie’s lifetime she kept the books for her husband’s businesses, but she was also known as a skilled poker player. She enjoyed shrimping and golfing but at the poker table she was the “Albuquerque Tumbleweed.” Jackie later retired to where she felt most at home in Randolph County, Alabama, to care for her mother. She was a voracious reader and always ensured that the hummingbirds and all the critters that would call at her house had food. Quietly elegant to all who knew her, she is remembered by her family and loved ones for being both generous of heart and accepting of others, knowing that only the Lord may truly stand in judgment.
Jackie is dearly missed and survived by Rocky (son) and Michaeline (daughter-in-law) Giffone, Steve (brother) and Marilyn (sister-in-law) McCord, Tanya Tucciarone (sister-in-law) and Bob Danko (brother-in-law), grandchildren, Shelby and Mason Guy, Chase Giffone and Colton and Melissa Amberg, and many nieces, nephews, extended family, and friends.
Services will be held on Friday, September 1, 2023, at Morrison’s Chapel in Heflin, Alabama. Visitation will be from 12 PM to 2 PM. Pastor Sallie Shaw will officiate. Pallbearers are Colton Amberg, Mason Guy, Darrel Ferris, Josh McCord, Jason McCord, and Tommy Holdridge. Service will begin at 2 PM.
In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to the Randolph County Animal Shelter at 104 Animal Shelter Road, Wedowee, AL 36278.
