Irwin was a fine Southern Gentleman. His smile could light up any room. We graduated from Central High
School in Wartburg, TN in 1971. And we stayed in touch. He will be missed at our Class Reunions and in our lives. I can see him now walking on the streets of Heaven. Visiting with all that has gone before him. We will meet again our beloved friend. Tom and Jeanette
Patrick.

I wish I had the words to convey what an exceptional friend Irwin was to many and especially my family and me. I will share a fraction of his life from my perspective. I met Irwin the first time in 1964 on the school bus the first day of school when we were about 12 years old. My family had moved to the small community of Joyner that summer, and I didn't know anyone there. Irwin struck up a conversation with me on the bus in classic "Irwin" style, and I knew immediately everything was going to be good in this place! Irwin was not known to be bashful even at that young age, and in fact he "knew no strangers" as the saying goes. Everyone loved him and he was a joy to be around. Thankfully, his style and and manner never changed throughout his life.
We became best friends and quickly grew as brothers along the way. He had the most positive attitude of anyone I have ever known. He would say, "Oh, come on now" and encourage me to join important activities like playing basketball, shooting marbles on the playground, riding bikes, riding steers bareback in the pasture as if it were a rodeo, swinging from ropes and grape vines over a mountain side (falling sometimes), fishing, hunting and camping just to name a few. Sundays were reserved for Sunday school, church and backyard gatherings.
Life changed to less play and more work during high school, but Irwin never complained even once. He made work more like fun and less of a chore. He performed all types of farm related work like putting up hay, corn, and tobacco and he also logged on the side to earn some spending money. If farmers in the area needed a hand, Irwin would gladly volunteer to assist there as well. He was the most physically strong person I knew for our age. He could toss a heavy bale of hay clear across a loaded wagon! Irwin's work ethic was equally strong and he strived to always do the right thing and do his best. He was dependable in every aspect of his life and was always there whenever needed.
After graduating high school, we went our separate ways to different cities and states. Yet when Karen and I were married we were most honored to have Irwin back by our side as our best man (an endearing title we kept for him through the years). We maintained contact and visited throughout the decades as time and travel allowed. Visits and phone calls provided opportunities to revisit the old days and laugh about some event where both of us survived with or without injury. There were a few trips to the ER to get stitches or patched up due to some bike accident or other mishap.
Irwin was a great and best friend for nearly 60 years. To say that we will miss him is a tremendous understatement. It is indeed a rare blessing to have such a good person and great friend with such outstanding character for so many years.
We will meet you on the other side our forever best man and friend.

Linda, Irwin was a great guy and as I said before we thought so much of him. Rip was so fond of him, that’s saying a lot! Please know we are praying and will pray for you all. May God give you strength and guidance in the coming days and months. Love you.

In memory of Irwin, a man of unrivaled gentleness and steadfast faith; selfless in his actions, kind-hearted by nature. A cherished graduate from Central High School's 1971 class in Wartburg, TN; his effervescent spirit and commanding cheer led our school team games and brought immeasurable joy to us all. As he ascends to the heavens, may we find peace in remembering his remarkable character. His departure leaves a void that cannot be filled. Rest peacefully, treasured friend.

Mr. Irwin was such a kind person. He lit up the room every time he would come into the pharmacy. I enjoyed talking with him and getting to know him. He will be truly missed. (And Go Vols- only for you, Mr. Irwin)

I met Irwin(he never liked me to call him Mr) several years ago. He was a customer of h and m drugs. We hit it off from the get go. He loved to give me a hard time and I did the same to him. He was a big Tennessee fan and I am a big Auburn fan. We had lots of fun during football season. Irwin was the most humble kind man you’re ever gonna meet. I am so heartbroken to hear of his passing and will miss him greatly. God had greater plans for you but just know all of us at Cleburne Pharmacy love you and we will miss your smiles and compliments you always gave us. Until we meet again War Eagle and Go Vols❤️

One of the most humble men I know, Irwin was a beloved uncle to our children and grands, a precious brother to me, a brother and friend to Russ, but most he was my sister’s rock, advocate, defender who treated her like the queen he always said she was!
I will always love him for many reasons, but how he loved his God and how he loved his “beautiful bride” have got to be the top two.
Thanks for living for Jesus, as strong in your convictions as you are in your love for Jesus, Lynn, Ken, and all of us. As a Jesus follower, you wore His Name well.
I love you so much and our lives will never quite be the same. See you, my big brother, at the Finish Line.

Irwin and I went to grade school and high school together. We were great friends, and I would go down to his house in Joyner outside of Wartburg and play when we were in grade school. He and I played basketball both in grade school and high school. Our 8th grade was small with only four boys and four girls in 1967. A very small school but we were like family. He will be missed by many of us who remain.
