Obituary of Harold Lee Jones
Funeral services for Harold Lee Jones, age 92, of Heflin, will be held at 3:00 pm on Wednesday, December 27, 2023, at Benefield Funeral Chapel in Wedowee with Pastor David Williams officiating and the eulogy given by William Robert Haley, Jr. Burial will follow at Heflin City Cemetery.
The family will receive friends at the funeral home from 1:30 to 3:00 pm on Wednesday.
Mr. Jones passed away on Saturday, December 23, 2023, at St. Vincent’s in Birmingham.
Survivors include two daughters, Debbie Bass (Mack) of Pell City and Mylinda Brown (Merlyn) of Heflin; one son, Lamar Jones (Sharon) of Heflin; grandchildren, Heath Jones (Kelly Underwood), Laci Buga (Chris), Katelyn Moore (Matthew), Claire Morrow (Matthew); great-grandchildren, Alex Buga, Grayson Moore, Emma Kate Moore, Ellisyn Moore; one sister, Jacqueline Shealy (Carrol); and many nieces and nephews.
Pallbearers will be Wayne Jones, Kenny Gossage, Charles Shealy, Tim Gossage, Chris Shealy, Mark Traylor, Scott Austin, Curtis Freeman, and Trent Jones. Honorary pallbearers will be members of Alabama National Guard.
A lifelong Heflin resident, Mr. Jones was born August 20, 1931, the son of W. E. Jones, Sr. and Estelle Norton Jones. He was an Army veteran and retired National Guard Sargeant Major with 46 years of service. He attended New Harmony Baptist Church, Heflin Methodist and the Church of the Messiah. Mr. Jones served on the Heflin City Council and the Cleburne County Hospital and Nursing Home Board. He was a member of the V. F. W. and the American Legion. He was preceded in death by his parents; his wife of 66 years, Mary Lorene Jones; one sister, Genell Gossage; and two brothers, W. E. Jones, Jr. and Charles Jones.

Morgan Public Library (541 Ross Street, Heflin, AL 36264) or to Sleep in Heavenly Peace, Alabama-Gadsden Chapter, an organization that builds and delivers fully furnished beds to local children in need.
