Obituary of Faye Akins

Funeral services for Faye Akins, age 81, of Graham, AL, will be held on Saturday, March 2, 2024, at 2:00 PM at Benefield Funeral Chapel with Bro. Cecil Cook officiating.  Burial will follow at Union Baptist Church in Newell, Alabama, with Benefield Funeral Home in charge of arrangements.

The family will receive friends at the funeral home from 5:00-8:00 PM on Friday, March 1, 2024.  Mrs. Akins will lie in state at Benefield Funeral Chapel for one hour prior to services beginning at 2:00 PM on Saturday.

Mrs. Akins passed away on Wednesday, February 28, 2024, at her daughter’s residence.

Survivors include: husband, Bennie Akins; daughters, Barbara Gay (Edward) of Morrison’s Crossroads, AL, Martha Akins (Timothy) of Ashland, AL, and Lisa Akins (James Jones) of Anniston, AL; sons, Wayne Akins (Becky) of Graham, AL, Bennie Akins, Jr., of Anniston, AL, Chris Akins of Elmore, AL, Stephen Akins (Sonja Duncan) of Graham, AL, and Dana Akins of Heflin, AL; 14 grandchildren and 23 great-grandchildren.

A Lexington, NC, native, Mrs. Akins was born on September 17, 1942, the daughter of Roy and Willie Burrage. She was a homemaker.  She was preceded in death by her parents; five sisters, one brother, one great-grandchild, numerous brothers and sisters-in-law.

Pallbearers will Wayne Akins, Stephen Akins, Sr., Josh Williams, James “Debo” Jones, Edward “Catfish” Gay, Stephen Akins, Jr., and J. J. Patterson. Honorary pallbearers will be Mrs. Akins’ grandchildren and great-grandchildren.

In lieu of flowers, the family asks that donations be made to Benefield Funeral Home, 17624 Highway 431, Wedowee, AL 36278, to help with funeral expenses.
