Obituary of Betty J Lowe
Funeral services for Betty J. Lowe, age 78, of Wadley will be held on Sunday, August 25, 2024, at 1:00 PM at Benefield Funeral Chapel with Elder Thomas Knight officiating. Burial will follow at Friendship Baptist Church Cemetery.
The family will receive friends at the funeral home from 4:00-8:00 PM on Saturday, August 24, 2024.
Mrs. Lowe passed away on Tuesday, August 20, 2024, at her residence.
Survivors include: five children, Truda Lowe of Augusta, GA, Angel McLain (Christopher) of Wadley, AL, Willie Lowe (Chantey) of Birmingham, AL, Margie Knight of Wadley, AL, and Sara Hand of Roanoke, AL; 14 grandchildren; 21 great-grandchildren; five sisters, Rosie Oneal (Lawrence) of Wedowee, Margaret Oneal (Demetrius) of Spokane, WA, Icie Langston of Wadley, AL, Shirley Knight of Wedowee, and Jackie McKissick of Brandywine, MD; and two brothers, James Woodgette of Detroit, MI, and J. C. McKissick of Bowdon, GA.
Pallbearers will be Mrs. Lowe’s family and friends.
A Wedowee native, Mrs. Lowe was born on July 15, 1946, the daughter of John R. Woodgette and Ervis Knight McKissick. She was a member of Pine Flat Primitive Baptist Church and worked as a seamstress before retiring. Mrs. Lowe had many hobbies including antiquing and thrifting, shopping, reading, dancing, and traveling. She loved her family and friends and enjoyed going to and having family gatherings and reunions. Mrs. Lowe also loved her church and her church family. She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Willie Fred Lowe, Sr.; one great-grandchild, Caleb McLain; seven brothers, Harold McKissick, Arthur Woodgette, Willie Woodgette, Jimmy McKissick, Wesley McKissick, Jack McKissick, Jr., and Marvin McKissick; one sister, Mary Ann McKissick; and a special cousin, Jessie Andrews.
Memorials may be floral or donations may be made to Pine Flat Primitive Baptist Church or to the American Heart Association.
