Obituary of Lewis William Cushing
Memorial services for Lewis William Cushing, age 76, of Heflin, will be held on Saturday, September 14, 2024, at 2:00 PM at The Potter’s House Assembly of God.
Mr. Cushing passed away on Tuesday, September 10, 2024, at his home.
Survivors include his wife of 55 years, Sarah Joyce Rice “Jodie” Cushing of Heflin; one son, Brently Mark Cushing of Newell; three daughters-in-law, Amanda Warren Cushing, Rashal Dutton Cushing and Melanie Cushing Wilder; five grandchildren, Gabriel Lynn Cushing (Maddie), Adrian Shade Cushing, Liam Eli Cushing, Jacob Ray Cushing, and Jon Lucus Warren; and a brother, Albert Cushing.
A Calhoun County native, Mr. Cushing was born on February 7, 1948, the son of Jessie and Alma Miles Cushing . He was a disabled combat veteran of the Vietnam Area Special Forces, 101st Airborne Division, and he was very proud of his service for his country. Mr. Cushing operated heavy equipment and worked on road building in the southeastern United States for 20 years. He was a minister/pastor for 40 years, traveling ten of those years as a tent evangelist, and he founded The Potter’s House Church in 1998 in Newell, Alabama, with a new church building erected and opened in 2001. Mr. Cushing loved preaching and singing for the Lord. He was preceded in death by his parents; a son, Brandon Lynn Cushing; and brothers, Jimmy Cushing (and wife, Betty), Wayne Cushing (and wife, Barbara), Archie Cushing, and Dale Cushing.
