Obituary of Gail Hightower
Gail Wellborn Hightower passed away on November 13, 2024, in Wedowee, AL. Gail was born on August 14, 1947, in Atlanta, GA, where she completed her primary education. After living in Italy following high school, she returned to Atlanta to work in the air-freight industry; she ascended the ranks at Burlington Northern Air Freight and got to travel around the world. She then moved to Orlando, FL and married Dennis Hightower in 1982 before retiring to the “Green Acres” of Wedowee, AL in 2007. During their 40 year marriage, they enjoyed traveling and their beloved standard poodles.
Gail was a loyal member of St. Johns Lutheran Church in Winter Park, FL and First United Methodist Church in Wedowee, AL.
Gail is survived by her, son, David Hightower and his wife Anita (“Cissy”), two grandchildren, Andrew Hightower and Elizabeth (“Elz”) Ackerman and her husband Ben, sister, Ann Kerlin, niece, Denise Chandler, nephew, Mark Ivey, several great nieces and nephews whom she adored, and many friends. She was preceded in death by her husband, Dennis Hightower, and parents, Mark and Goldie Wellborn.
Mrs. Hightower also had several special caretakers: Dawn Oswalt, Kim Akins, Debra Siggers, Kim Huey and Janet Grogan.
Memorial services will be held on Saturday, November 23, 2024, at 11:00 AM at the First United Methodist Church of Wedowee.
