Obituary of Vickie Jo Candler

Funeral services for Vickie Jo Candler, age 62, of Newell will be held on Saturday, November 23, 2024, at 1:00 PM at Union Baptist Church with Bro. Ed Halsey officiating.  Burial will follow in the adjoining cemetery with Benefield Funeral Home in charge of arrangements.

The family will receive friends at the funeral home from 5:00-7:00 PM on Friday, November 22, 2024.  Mrs. Candler will lie in state at the church for one hour before services begin on Saturday.

Mrs. Candler passed away Tuesday, November 19, 2024, at her home.

Survivors include her husband, Buddy Candler of Newell and one son, Dustin Candler of Newell.

Pallbearers will be Ed Barrett, Jimmy Cofield, Daniel Andrews, Travis Owen, Walker Kelley, and Chris Hill. Honorary pallbearers will be Dan Dacus and Deana Wood.

A longtime Randolph County resident, Mrs. Candler was born in Atlanta, Georgia, on October 3, 1962, the daughter of Billy Joe and Gaynell Williams Cofield.  She was a member of Union Baptist Church and was a retired accountant and truck driver.  Mrs. Candler was also a volunteer firefighter with the Morrison’s Crossroads Volunteer Fire Department where she was awarded the Firefighter of the Year award in 2020, the first woman in Randolph County to be honored as such.  She was preceded in death by her parents and a sister, Myra Yarian.
