Obituary Notice Services for James Bernard "JB " Austin age 83, of Wedowee will be held Thursday November 12, 2009 at 2:00 PM at First United Methodist Church of Wedowee with Dr. Harris Hand, Rev. Gary Henderson and Rev. Robert Mount officiating. Burial will follow in the Wedowee City Cemetery Mr. Austin passed away on Tuesday November 10, 2009 at East Alabama Medical Center in Opelika. Mr. Austin is survived by his wife Janie Huey Austin, and a daughter Veronica Austin both of Wedowee. Also a special friend Tony Heard of Wedowee. Pallbearers will be Tony Heard, Ron Watters, Danny Rollins, Lee Brantley, James Wilson, Alan Satterwhite, Thomas Rollins and Pee Wee Rollins. Honorary pallbearers will be Christian Fellowship Sunday School Class. Mr. Austin was a native and lifelong resident of Randolph county. He was born April 18, 1926 the son of Hillard and Alice Green Austin. He served as fire chief of Wedowee Volunteer Fire Department for 35 years. He served as Gas and Water Board manager for the Town of Wedowee for 38 years. He served in the United States Navy during World War II. He was a member of First United Methodist Church of Wedowee and a member of the Christian Fellowship Sunday School Class. He was preceded in death by his parents, a son James "Zerex" Austin, Jr., and three brothers Otis, Herman and Calvin Austin The family will receive friends on Wednesday November 11, 2009 at Benefield Funeral Home of Wedowee after 4 PM. Mr. Austin will lie in state at the church for one hour prior to services. Benefield Funeral Home of Wedowee in charge of the arrangements.
