Obituary of Sara Burdette Benefield

Funeral services for Sara Burdette Benefield , age 85 of Wedowee will be held Thursday September 1, 2011 at 2:00 PM at First Methodist Church of Wedowee with Rev. Gary Henderson and Rev. Russell Hessley officiating. Burial will follow in the Wedowee City Cemetery. Mrs. Benefield passed away Tuesday August 30, 2011, 2011 at Wedowee Hospital. Pallbearers will be Barry Kirby, Ted Jackson, Glen Jackson, Matt Benefield, Jeff Benefield. Honorary Pallbearers will be Harold Harmon, Billy Jean Kirby, Phillip Kirby, Phil Benefield, Freeman (Dusty) Mills, Phil Williamson, Billy Jordan, and David Benefield. Mrs. Benefield is survived by her husband Ralph Benefield of Wedowee, and one daughter Glenda B. Woodham of Roanoke. She was born October 16, 1925 the daughter of Robert Eugene and Callie Ophelia Weathers Burdette. Mrs. Benefield was a loving wife of seventy years and the last survivor of the Weathers Family, whose grandfather was a Confederate soldier. She was preceded in death by her parents, three brothers and five sisters. The family will receive friends at Benefield Funeral Home of Wedowee on Wednesday, August 31, 2011 from 5 till 8 PM. The body will lie in state at the church one hour prior to services. The family will accept flowers, or donations may be made to a favorite charity.
