DJ was such a sweet man...its been many years since I'd seen him but I will always treasure the fun times of spending Thanksgiving with the Hammett family at their old farmhouse when I was just a young girl. My love and sympathy goes out to Geri, Richard, Roger and their families.

A wonderful caring man has moved on to his heavenly reward. We will miss him--neither Jack's nor the grocery store will be the same--it seems like we also ran into him there. Randolph County has lost someone who worked so hard for their future. Our prayers and thoughts are with all the family.

I am so sorry to hear about DJ. I had the honor of serving with him in the ESGR. He was a true patriot & will be missed by all that knew him. He spoke often of his family & especially his sons. He was so proud of them. We will keep you in our prayers.

What a wonderful man who played such a big part of my life as a teenager and young adult!Like my sister Karen, I will always cherish those Thanksgivings at the old farm house. And the trip to Myrtle Beach camping and Roger with "Dancing Dan" and Geri and I doing crossword puzzles. Geri,I love you so much. DJ was a wonderful man with a big smile and huge heart!Love to Roger, Richard and their families.

It was always an honor to be in the presence of D.J.- a brillant mind. He made the task of putting words to the wordless seem effortless. His words were always fresh and alive, wise, grounded in experience. He was holistic in nature, original and above all - unafraid of using the full orchestra of language full of exuberance. He was our friend. He will be missed.

My deepest sympathies go out to Gerri, Roger, Richard and all the Hammett family. When passing through Alabama, it was so good to visit with DJ and Gerri and their friends at Jack's to share stories about the good old Columbia days as well as hearing about whats new. DJ was putting wisdom into action by staying active and involved in his community. Our world is diminished with the loss of this very special man who meant so much to so many.

Gerri,Roger & family, I have just found out about DJ since I now live in Georgia. I'm so sorry for your loss. He was a wonderful man & I always enjoyed seeing him in town. I will never forget the discussions we had about me attending AU for my Bachelor's Degree in Nursing. I still have the business card he gave me with his number on it. I love all of you and I will keep you in my prayers. I hope by sharing my memory of DJ, it will make you smile. Love you!
